Mavericks Front Office Issues

The Dallas Mavericks are an American professional basketball team located in Dallas, Texas. For those of you who do not know, the Mavericks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Mavericks have a rich history being recognized as the leagues ninths most valuable basketball franchise in the NBA, valued at around $1.9 billion. The Mavericks are owned and operated by American businessman Mark Cuban. Cuban has always had a great reputation of running and investing in big time companies over his years as a businessman.

Recently, there was a big issue regarding the former team president and CEO Terdema Ussery, who is described by many as a serial sexual harasser in an article written by "The Ringer." Over the past few years there has been many occurrences of Ussery terrorizing female employees. Other employees involved with sexual harassment for the Mavericks were writer Earl K. Sneed and senior VP of human resources Buddy Pittman. Pittman has never sexually harassed anyone within the company but has not followed through with reports of such crimes. In the past, Sneed has had issues with domestic violence and sexual harassment cases with former partners of his. In 2014 he was dating a female involved with the Mavericks where he physically and verbally abused her. When she went on to tell her story to Buddy Pittman (VP of HR), the case went nowhere and Sneed continued to be employed with the Mavericks.

After the coming out of all of these stories of sexual harassment and domestic violence issues within the Mavericks organization, Mark Cuban had his hands full. While Cuban was not linked with any sexual harassment himself, he is now under a microscope due to the behavior of many of his employees. When this case opened up, Cuban took a huge step in firing Pittman from the Mavericks due to his lack of professionalism.

Mark Cuban is a man with a great reputation and has always done his best to be the most professional businessman possible. With this story coming out it has definitely put a bruise on his name and I think it will put a sour taste in many people’s mouths. With time, I believe that Cuban will continue to take steps in the right direction for the Mavericks and make sure anyone involved is taken care of accordingly.
